With the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance in March 2024, Hong Kong has entered a new chapter in promoting legal awareness and civic responsibility. To help deepen public understanding of the related laws, Shin Tak Foundation introduced a meaningful trip “Discovering National Security with Giant Panda” to the public.

Purpose

To strengthen the innovative impact of national security education and raise public awareness across all sectors. This picture book aligns with recent policy directions by integrating national security knowledge into the foundational education system. It aims to instill a sense of national security, social responsibility, and patriotism in children, while covering diverse themes such as the rule of law, ecological protection, and civic values.

Details

As introduced by the Shin Tak Foundation in 2025, “Discovering National Security with Giant Panda” is a colourful children’s book that blends storytelling, technology, and civic education. It features six beloved panda characters—including “Jia Jia” and “De De” - who guide children through fun, animated scenes using AR (augmented reality). Just scan the pages with a phone or tablet to unlock interactive content and explore themes like national security, rule of law, ecological protection, and social responsibility.

Created in line with Hong Kong’s latest education policies, the book helps children build awareness and values in a playful, family-friendly way. Distributed to over 1,100 schools, it’s designed to connect home and classroom learning—making important topics feel engaging, relatable, and fun.
